Vines is a series of ten inkjet prints and five video projections. The prints were created by digitally scanning vines into the computer eliminating the camera and traditional film processes. Since my interest was primarily in the line, I blacked the object and eliminated most of the gray tones. This line makes reference to a calligrapher's brush stroke where thoughts of structure and the refinement and movement of the line are crucial. A small percentage of gray tones show up in specific areas to allow for a hint of photographic detail. After the initial still images were made I went back to the original vines and videotaped them revolving in 360 degrees. In this approach I could view many lines created by one vine. Each degree that the vine moved allowed for a new view or a still image to be realized. At the same time the movement kept the entire vine as context.
