PRETTY

The series Pretty is a collection of color photographs of different pieces of fabric. The prints are scaled in various sizes to accommodate the desire for any particular color (12 x 15" up to 50 x 40"). This need to resize a color depends on its placement next to another. Mixing both color and size allowed me to orchestrate the design of a wall or room. Choosing to test the level of commitment to content and meaning I chose to produce colors that I was certain would get an effortlessly positive reaction. For instance blue is a popular color at large scale. The desire for red is second to blue at a smaller scale.

The title Pretty came near the end of the project as my honest reaction when printing the colors. The word pretty also brought the work to a simpler, more pedestrian notion of art. My impulsive and spontaneous reaction to this project educated me on a pre-verbal quality of art.
